Five Team Building Exercises You Can Do in the Office

A unified team that understands each other can be the determining factor in whether or not your company succeeds. To achieve that synergy, you sometimes have to resort to team building exercises. Today, we have chosen five exercises that will not only unite the team, but they are also fun for the employees and, with a little bit of luck, will increase their day to day happiness at work.

The human knot, a team building classic

This exercise promotes communication, trust, listening, cooperation and brings workers closer together. Forming a circle, they should extend their hands to other people in the circle, and then untie the resulting knot that is formed, cooperating with each other as they do it. But let’s go step by step:

  • First, have your employees form a circle. If you have a large group, ask them to form several circles. And if there is an odd number of participants, select one of the people to help them from outside the circle.
  • Once in a circle, employees should raise their right hand and bring it to the center, as if they were going to offer something. Then they must take the hand of another person across the circle from them, at random.
  • Then the same with their other hand. A knot of interlocking people will have formed.
  • Now comes the good part. It is time to untie the knot without any of the hands being released, until a chain of hands again forms a circle. Give them 15 minutes and enjoy the show.

 

Two truths and one lie

This one is perfect to break the ice when there are new employees,- and it will make your internal communications take off.

Just like the name says, each employee has to think of two truths and one lie (credible), and the rest have to guess and comment on which one is false.

 

The birthday line

Ever since we were young, for some reason celebrating birthdays on similar dates has made us feel closer to each other. In this exercise, you build on that union, but with some changes. Without talking, and only through the use of gestures, employees have to form a line according to the date of their birthday. As an extra in this exercise, you can add a bench for them to climb up on it when forming the line.

 

The minefield

If the previous exercise promoted understanding, this one does the same thing with listening and responsibility. In an open area, place several objects scattered around the floor. In pairs, one person has to guide the other so that he or she crosses the surface without colliding with anything.

And what is the trick here? Those who walk are blindfolded and the guide can only talk, without physical contact. Do you want to add even more to this exercise? If there is enough space, have two or three pairs do this at the same time.

 

Take a colleague to work day

Based on the idea of ​​taking your child to work, this time an employee spends the day in another colleague’s department. This gives them a different perspective that helps resolve the typical differences that arise between teams that work together but on different things. For example, sales people would be able to see the efforts of the IT team from a different perspective,- new knowledge which might even help them sell more.

It is worth spending some time to see things as others see them, and to understand what they do. In addition, this offers an opportunity to interact with people you do not usually talk to during the workday. Your human resources department can organize this, taking into account employee preferences.
